A. Sisley - an artist who left behind a lot of landscapes in the style of impressionism. He prefers to write quiet, secluded corners of the suburbs of Paris. All of his landscapes are particularly lyrical, because their author is a lyric poet in his soul. Often there is a subtle touch of sadness in his canvases.
Sisley considered the most important thing in the landscape to be color reproduction: he thought out every shade present in the work, correlating it with the general meaning and mood of the picture.
In the painting “The Road at the Edge of the Forest” the autumn forest in bright decoration appears before the audience. Through the tall yellow-red grass, a path with several branches is visible. Tall trees with bright yellow and red foliage frame the canvas around the edges. In the bright colors of a withering forest, you can see two dark figures in the background of the picture. There you can also see a small bright house with a red sloping roof.
Almost the whole picture is the red-yellow colors of autumn. Only the sky on the canvas is light blue mottled with small clouds. Small human figures emphasize the insignificance of man in comparison with nature. They do not violate the general calm of the landscape. Sisley shows nature in all its glory and power. Long tree trunks are many times larger than tiny people in the back. It is not clear who these people are. Perhaps business partners agreeing on a secret deal, or perhaps this is a couple in love who decided to take a walk in the canopy of tall trees.
The artist makes a note of sadness in his painting "The Road at the Edge of the Forest." Small people and huge trees are a symbol of the speed of human life. Years will pass, people coming to the edge of the forest will be different. Only the forest, aggravated by the sunset, remains the same. Trees on the threshold of cold weather are calm, peaceful, pure and, as always, magnificent in their beauty.
